Public Works Department,

Hong Kong

February, 1911.

n: Mr. W. Chatham, O.M.G.,

Director of Public Works,

&0. &0. &C.

sir,

We, the undersigned, beg to make, through your kindly

offices, the following respectful representation to Hig

Excellency the Governor in the matter of our status and scale of

pay.

2. In 1905 3 were on the same footing, entitled to the

same privileges and enjoyed the same rate of pay as the senior

Overseers.

3. In 1906, however, when these Overseers were placed,

in the matter of pay, on a level with Sanitary Inspectors of the

let. Class, we were evidently overlooked, as we got no corres-

ponding promotion.

4. We respectfully and humbly submit that no justification, to our knowledge, can be found for this lowering of our official

standing and the consequent detriment wrought to our personal

intereste.

5. We therefore crave that His Excellency may be moved to

permit us to regain our lost position lost, temporarily we

trust, through no default on our part.

6. In support of our prayer we beg to cite the following reasons for His Excellency's kindly consideration, namely:-

(a) The incidence of high rent and enhanced cost of

living affects us equally with the Overeeera.

(b) We are, bo h, married men and have, each, a family

to support and educate.
